  • To the moon in June

With summer just around the corner, it’s only natural to be thinking about good times ahead. You know – vacation, picnics with family and friends, frolicking on the beach – and spending lots more time in the great outdoors.

It’s also the time of year when many are still looking to shed a few ‘winter’ pounds so they can look good in summer attire, especially swimsuits. Hey, let’s be honest. When we look good we feel better. And ultimately that’s what we’re all after, isn’t it?

With that in mind, I’m organizing this year’s June health challenge and I’m calling it To the Moon in June. You may remember (and even participated in) the Healthy Team Challenge we did last year as a fund raiser for the Northampton Survival Center.

This year, we’re going to revert back to an individual format as it seems to be more popular than the team approach we took last year. In other words, you won’t have to start a team and recruit others to join you.

The challenge will start June 1st and last for 28 days. It will be an opportunity to earn points for engaging in healthy behaviors which have been shown to enhance our health (both physical and mental) in the fullest sense of the term. You will have three categories in which to earn points: Physical Activity, Nutrition, and Lifestyle.

Once again we will use the elegantly designed Daily Endorphin (www.dailyendorphin.com) as a platform for the challenge. The beauty of DE is that it requires very little tech savvy on your part. On the other hand, if you already use a fitness tracking device (like a Fitbit), you can synch it easily with the DE and your daily steps are automatically recorded for you.

Next week I’ll give you more details about the challenge. For now, all you need to do is spend a few minutes thinking about your vision for a healthier You this summer.

The best way to envision the new and improved you is to close your eyes and let your imagination run free for a bit. Imagine you have already achieved that personal health you occasionally fantasize about having.

    What does it look like?

How does it feel to be experiencing robust health?

You’ll know you’re immersing yourself in this visioning exercise fully when a smile comes to your face as you sense you are on to something really powerful.

So start making plans now for a highly energetic summer with a kick off scheduled for June 1st.

And stay tuned for more details in the next couple of weeks.

    To your health!
